Hawk
Joy in the power of flight,
Freedom strong in uplifted
Wings,
Pride,
Wheeling in the sky,
Gentle warmth from sun above,
Wind ruffling feathers,
Caressing graceful form;
Yet always
Vague fear,
Hint of horror seen,
In the haunted golden eyes,
Always searching furtively
For scent or sight of man.
Knowledge
Of thunder splitting sky,
Of majestic feathers
Torn asunder,
Rent upon the air,
Smell of blood,
Terror
And loss.
If tears could be shed,
The earth would forever be watered.
