Java Shotgun Simulation
Java Simulation #2 Steel
The simulator below simulates a competent duck shooter using 1 1/8oz #2 steel shot. This shooter shoots about 8 shots per bagged bird which is better than average but not very good. The ducks are assumed to be Pacific Black Duck, a little smaller than the Mallards of North America.
Click on "Stop" to stop the applet, Click on "Go" to start it. Adjust the run speed with the slider. You can also select whether to show or not show all the pellets. Showing them just slows the simulation down thats all (all their positions are calculated in any event). The first shot is the darker pellets, a second shot is taken only if the duck is not dead after the first shot. The duck is represented by the 2 concentric circles in the middle. The wounding rate is in birds wounded per 100 bagged. Thus a wounding rate of 120 means 12 wounded for every 10 bagged. NOTE that not all these birds will fall from the sky, many will fly on just like a footballer who continues to perform during a game, despite serious injury. For further technical details see the computer model pages.
